About Yakisugi
Overview
Yakisugi is a Minecraft mod inspired by traditional Japanese culture and the yakisugi technique of wood preservation. It adds charred wood which is made by burning planks around a campfire, katanas, shurikens, straw armor, decorations such as shoji screens, shoji doors, tsukubai, paper lanterns, and many more.

The Vision
I started making Yakisugi in early 2025, after learning how traditional Japanese houses use charred wood for some of their structures. This kind of technique makes wood more durable and resistant to fire or water. Bringing this new wood type to Minecraft makes any build completely unique and cozy, especially when using slightly charred wood. All other elements of this mod came to life naturally as the development went on.

I always wanted this mod to feel like it belongs to Minecraft in some way. The design process with artists like Lorenzo, oRandomy, and Mash was always aimed at capturing that feeling. They're really talented and worked on other Minecraft mods in the past.
Everything in this mod has been made with deep respect for Japanese culture and its people. In some cases, certain game limitations can make processes a bit different from what they actually are in real life. But we always found a way to make everything with deep care and attention to detail. This applies to things like sounds, color palettes, textures, and models.
